Root exudation

Project team: Wen Wen (Zhejiang University), Mingkai Jiang (Zhejiang University); David Ellsworth (Western Sydney University), Catriona Macdonald (Western Sydney University)

Project period: 2025 – ongoing

Summary

The main objective of this project is to quantify carbon fluxes through root exudates under elevated CO₂ and phosphorus addition, and to explore relationships between leaf Mn concentrations and root exudate composition. To date, three rounds of sampling have been completed, with the most recent batch finished recently. Future plans for continued sampling are still under discussion. Sampling was conducted in Mar 2025, Sep 2025, and Jan 2026.

Findings so far: So far, we have observed changes in the C:N ratio of root exudates following phosphorus addition, and further analyses of exudate composition are ongoing.
